It’s A Joke When People Say I’m Planting My Billboards Instead Of Food – Agric Minister Reacts
It has come to the limelight that the Food and Agriculture Minister’s billboards have been spotted to have been mounted in all the sixteen Regions of the country. This has dragged along a whole lot of conversations about the Minister’s optimum focus on the flagbearership race for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has reacted to the issue and some comments people have made about the Minister.
He emphasized that the billboards were not sponsored by him but rather by his loved ones following the declaration of his intention to contest the presidential election.
According to him, “it’s a joke when people say I’m planting my billboards around instead of food”.
He said that his loved ones are more impressed and have seen the good and hard work he has done in his department, ministry, and the country as a whole. In response, they also sponsored and erected billboards as a sign of appreciation.
Speaking with the media, the Minister rhetorically questioned that “if I was the one constructing the billboards how would I get time to work and transform the agricultural sector at the same time?”
The Flagbearer aspirant narrated that the country’s growth rate for agriculture for the last two years has been accelerated by 7.4% in 2020 and 8.4% in 2021 during the peak of the covid-19 pandemic.
“It is my prayer and hopes that this year will be better than last year’s 8.4% partly because of the heavy rainfall in the forest areas and Southern part of the country” he added.
Dr. Akoto Afriyie revealed that when the ministry visited the farmers on their farms in the various regions they were excited due to the rainfall.
“I’m focusing more on how food security will be secured in the country”.
