I Brought Chairman Wontumi into NPP – Alan Kyerematen

Alan Kyerematen has said that he played a pivotal role in the political journey of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, better known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He emphasized that he introduced Chairman Wontumi to the NPP with good intentions and guided him as he transitioned into the world of Ghanaian politics.

Alan revealed that he first encountered Chairman Wontumi in 2005 during his visit to Kumasi. At that time, Chairman Wontumi was primarily a businessman who had not considered entering the realm of Ghanaian politics.

However, inspired by Alan’s vision and policies as a politician, he decided to align himself with the NPP.

“I met him in 2005 when I was in Kumasi. He approached me; he never intended to do politics in Ghana. He only decided to join because of my vision and policies as a politician. I was looking for men with courage…. He was from the Bosomtwi constituency, and I asked that he be made chairman. He was like my chief campaigner,” Allan recalled in an interview sighted by Opemsuo Radio on United Television.

He further stressed the importance of gratitude, particularly when someone extends a helping hand. He expressed his surprise and disappointment upon learning that Chairman Wontumi was actively campaigning against him, considering their history.

“Who brought Wontumi to the party? I brought him into the party. He has to be thanking Alan Kyerematen.”

“He should be careful because if someone helps you, you should be grateful. Now that he is in a good position, he is doing whatever he pleases. So when I hear he is doing a campaign against me, it was surprising,” Alan remarked.

Alan went on to advise Chairman Wontumi to always remember who assisted him in his political journey.

While expressing his view that a regional chairman should maintain fairness and impartiality, Alan acknowledged that he was no longer a presidential aspirant and indicated that the removal of his campaign posters was acceptable.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has issued an order to have all materials branded in the name and pictures of Alan Kyerematen discarded from all the party offices.

In a Memo to Constituency Chairmen in the region on Monday, September 25, the same day Alan announced his defection, Chairman Wontumi, issued an order to have all materials branded in the name and pictures of Alan Kyerematen discarded from all the party offices.

“In view of Hon Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the party, all his posters, banners, flyers and paraphernalia at our party offices in all the constituencies must be removed with immediate effect.”
