How Otumfuo Brought Life To Nsenowa- Sam Pyne Recounts
The Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon Sam Pyne says the reign of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is capped with a unique style of modern-day leadership, heavily centred on drawing home development and improving the lives of people.
The politician, during an interview with Opemsuo Radio’s Kwame Awuah Nimfour, recounted how Nsenowa was transformed to provide comfort to residents and visitors. This change was brought about by the efforts of a Non-Governmental Organization of the King
Hon Pyne said his first visit to the deprived community came when he was posted to teach in a school there as a young trained teacher.
He said the unappealing nature of the community due to the lack of essential social amenities like water and a proper school building discouraged him and sanctioned his request for a reposting.
But then years later, when Otumfuo took over as the 16th Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, his fate took him back to the community, this time around as a politician, during which he realized the community had been given life through the Otumfuo Education Fund, now the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation (OOTIIF).
“After training college, I was posted to a place called Nsenowa at Offinso North. I boycotted it when I visited the place. When I began politics, I went there and found a school block, library and water had been made available to them through the Otumfuo Education Fund. With the facelift, teachers posted there won’t scramble for a reposting.”
He complimented, “He has added modernity to chieftaincy. The honour and respect the West has for him is top-notch. God bless him and give him a long life.”
