Asanteman Goes Cleaning Tomorrow

The people of Asanteman will go out in their numbers to clean up their surroundings on Saturday, March 30, 2024, in consonance with the first event slated for the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The cleanup exercise will be spearheaded in all paramountcies with the collaboration of Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

Residents will clean up their immediate surroundings while traders and other volunteers will spread across to restore sanitary conditions.

Giving details about the exercise during a meeting by the Asanteman Council on March 28, 2024, Otumfuo Kyeamehene Nsuase Poku who leads the Sanitation sub-committee of the Planning Committee, said the aim is to make the environment appealing for the subsequent events.

Addressing the Council, he said the various Assemblies in the Ashanti Region have been brought on board for the success of the exercise and to make it a tradition even after the anniversary celebration.

It will begin at 6 am and end at noon during which shops will remain closed.

He said students of various high schools, due to the Easter break, had to take the lead in the clean-up exercise.

Ing Nana Poku Agyemang who is part of the Planning Committee said the Chief Executive Officer of Zoomlion, Joseph Siaw Agyepong, had agreed to provide sanitary services such as picking up all waste and providing tools for the work including mobile toilets.

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the council meeting charged all traditional rulers in Asanteman to lead the charge.

He noted that the clean-up exercise should not be restricted to Kumasi, the capital of Asanteman, but must be witnessed as far as Seikwa in the Bono Region, an extension of Asanteman’s territory.

“The exercise is not limited to Kumasi. Seikwa is part of Asanteman as well as all others in different regions. You all must come out in your numbers to make sure the various surroundings are cleaned up on Saturday. After that, we will meet on Sunday for Akwasidae.”

Otumfuo will join the exercise and also inspect the clean-up in selected communities.
