FDA Debunks Sale Of Plastic Fish

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has discredited a video alleging the infiltration of plastic fish on the Ghanaian market.

The claim has reemerged once again after eight years.

In 2015, a video surfaced on social media in which it was claimed that plastic fish were being sold in Mallam Atta market to unsuspecting customers in the Greater Accra region.

The claims were found to be untrue after an investigation by the FDA.

At the time, the FDA urged the public to verify with the Authority before circulating such videos online to create panic and fear.

The same video has brought up the subject again.

“The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has noticed the reemergence of a video circulating on social media regarding the presence of plastic fish in the market.

“The video has been previously debunked by the FDA, and the agency is once again reminding the public that the claims made in the video are not true,” a statement from the Authority said on Friday, May 12, 2023.

It urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation.
