NIA Begins Registration of Ghanaians Aged 6-14

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has commenced the registration of Ghanaian children aged 6 to 14 years.
The exercise is taking place at all NIA Premium Centres nationwide, it announced in a statement.
The Authority notes that this is a step further in building a comprehensive and inclusive National Identity Register (NIR) that captures every Ghanaian from childhood.
“This move is in line with the NIA’s legal mandate to register all Ghanaians, both at home and abroad, and to ensure that every citizen has a secure and verifiable national identity.”
Fees
According to the NIA, first-time registration at Premium Centres costs GHS 310, consistent with the approved charges for premium services.
Parents or Legal guardians are to present either a valid Ghanaian passport of the child or the original copy of the child’s Birth Certificate.
Guardians may also choose to present a Ghana Card holder to vouch for the child.
Online Registration
Effective Monday, 15th September 2025, the online registration and booking system will be extended to all 11 remaining Premium Centres nationwide, providing applicants with convenience in scheduling appointments, it noted.
“Applicants are encouraged to make use of the online appointment booking system to ensure a smooth and timely process at the Premium Centres.”
Issuance of Cards and Further Expansion of Services
The NIA assured the public that issuance of Ghana Cards for Ghanaians aged between 6 and 14 years who have already registered will be communicated in due course.
Meanwhile, the Authority said it will announce, in the coming weeks, the extension of these registration services to all NIA District Offices nationwide to expand access for applicants across the country.
