Labour, Gov’t Agree On 23% Base Pay Hike For 2024

The Government of Ghana and Organised Labour have agreed to increase the 2024 Base pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) to 23%.

As part of the conditions of the agreement which was signed on Tuesday, November 14, the 23% increment will be effective from January 2024 to June 2024 but will be adjusted to 25% from July 2024 to December 2024.

The agreement was signed by the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah and the Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Benjamin Arthur on the government side and the Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Anthony Yaw Baah and the Chairman of FORUM, Isaac Bampoe Addo on the Labour side.

The agreement was reached after a stalemate earlier on Monday when Organised Labour proposed 75.1% base pay while the government offered 10%.

Labour then settled on 60% while the government decided to give a 15% increment but both sides eventually agreed at 23%.

Both parties agreed on a 30% Base for this year at the existing pay point of 1.7%.
