KATH CEO Caught Off Guard by Birthday Surprise
The staff of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) pulled up a simple yet elegant surprise birthday honour for the Chief Executive Officer, Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah on Thursday.
The medical doctor by profession clocked 50 years on March 6, 2025, and received the shock of his life when he was lured under the pretence of attending to an “important assignment” to one of the recently renovated spaces of the hospital.
The CEO- who conceived the idea of KATH renovation and sought the assistance of the King of the Asante Kingdom sometime after his fresh appointment by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo- was ushered into the designated where a choir, medical staff and heads were laying in ambush.
He was welcomed with a birthday song.
“Wow,” he said when the song ended and had, pulled up before him, his birthday cake.
He admitted, “I’m shocked. I want to say a very big thank you to you. Honestly, I was brought up for an important assignment by the big man here. I never thought something like this was going to be done.”
He further recounted to those present how he nearly made an excuse to escape the said assignment.
“At some points, I was entertaining thoughts of not passing through because I was on my way out to some other place but I didn’t want to disappoint him so I had to come out of the love and respect I have for him and his team.”
Prof Adda-Mensah dedicated the celebration to the staff of the hospital for their unflinching support since his appointment.
“Thank you so very much. I want to dedicate this the staff of this hospital for the immense support throughout my stay. I’m certain there are a lot more things together we will be able to achieve.”
