Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko to Contest NPP National Chairman Position

Ghanaian economist, politician and former banker Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko has announced intentions to contest the National Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The former Energy Minister and founding member of the party announced this in a press statement on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
“Having factored in all the considerations, I see it as my bounden duty to respond to this call to duty, and hereby announce that I will contest for the position of NATIONAL CHAIRMAN of my party upon the opening of nominations.”
According to him, this followed calls from supporters and a wide consultation with family and friends.
“I have had consultations with members of my family and those who are very close to me, and whose lives would be most affected by the decisions I make.
“I have also listened carefully to what the broad masses of our party people, and indeed many outside our party, are asking of me.
Agyarko was the Minister of Energy from 2017 to 2018 and is a founding member of the New Patriotic Party.
He has in past also unsuccessfully contested for the flagbearership position of the party.
