AU To Hold Extraordinary Summit This May In Malabo

The African Union (AU) will hold an extraordinary summit in Malabo in Equatorial Guinea.

The summit known as Extraordinary Humanitarian Summit and Pledging Conference will be held on May 27, 2022.

According to the AU, the 2022 Summit will deliberate efforts set forth by African leaders to address the current humanitarian challenges that Africa is facing, exacerbated by the socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and disasters across the continent.

It will also identify durable solutions to address the current humanitarian challenges especially of humanitarian financing and those that contribute to post-conflict recovery, peace and development.

“Humanitarian needs in Africa are driven by climate related disasters that have become increasingly recurrent such as increased terrorist activities, conflicts, political instability and health pandemics. These challenges have reversed the development made in various sectors including health, education, food security and livelihoods”, the AU said.

Ahead of the Extraordinary Humanitarian Summit and Pledging Conference, the AU will hold an STC meeting on Migration, Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons from May 23 – 24, 2022.

On May 25, 2022 an Executive Council Meeting will be held.

A day after the Extraordinary Humanitarian Summit and Pledging Conference will be an Extraordinary Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Regime in Africa.
