Aboabo Drainage System Not Fixed; I Was Surprised Of Finance Minister’s Claim – Assemblyman

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta stated in parliament yesterday Monday 25th July 2022, during his presentation of the Mid-Year Budget Review that as part of the many projects ongoing in Kumasi, the Aboabo drainage system has been fixed to 92% completion.

Speaking on Opemsuo Radio with Agudey, the Assembly Member for the Aboabo N0.1 Electoral Area, Hon. Mubarack Adamu emphasized that “the Aboabo drainage system has not been fixed as the Finance Minister claimed during his presentation”.

According to him, he was very surprised to hear the finance minister presenting to Parliament and Ghanaians at large that the drainage system has been fixed to 92% completion whiles nothing has been done.

He pointed out that the absence of a drainage system is a major problem facing the residents as the areas get flooded anytime there is a heavy downpour.

He added that the grass root executives and the Assembly authorities are the cause of the disparities of public projects information to the State officials and without investigations present them publicly which is something that is worth addressing.

The Assemblyman for Sepe-Timpom Electoral Area, Hon. Kwame Nkrumah Arthur has also indicated that there is no drainage system project ongoing in the area as the Finance Minister indicated in parliament yesterday 25th July 2022 during the Mid-year Budget Review presentation.

According to the Assemblyman, the only work in progress is the normal desilting (sand offloading from the gutters) activity that has taken place in the area.

He stated that the work has been brought to a halt due to the breakdown of the excavator and does not know when it shall be continued.

Hon. Kwame Nkrumah emphasized that the flooding situation is very serious threatening their human survival in the area and for this reason, the residents wrote to the Assembly for such action to be taken.
