Prisoners’ Transformation A Significant Role – Otumfuo
Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has tasked prison officers to take serious transformation of prisoners as it is one of their significant roles.
“The work of a prison officer goes beyond arrest and quarantining. Some people end up as prisoners due to unfortunate instances whilst others are locked up for indeed breaking the law”, he said.
He continued, “Some people end up there due to no fault of theirs, others because of twists in the case or twist in the laws; and others too are indeed law breakers, all these people are at the facility, so at the end even the bad ones must be transformed. The transformation and wellbeing of such persons at the facility is the key”.
The Asantehene said, “ it is evident that you lack space and sufficient funds but through your expertise develop some means to manage the situation for the inmate to get the needed training“
He made the remarks when the Acting Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mr Isaac Kofi Egyir, together with some regional and department heads visited him at the Manhyia Palace.
Otumfuo called for a collaborative effort in achieving the ultimate goal of transformation.
