It Was Expected- Mensah Thompson On CJ’s Dismissal Request

Executive Director for Alliance for Social Equity and Accountability (ASEPA), Mr. Mensah Thompson has stated that the President only acted in compliance with the outlines of the Constitution.

ASEPA petitioned the President to remove the Chief Justice, Kwesi Anin Yeboah from his position following the US$5million bribery allegation against him.

In a response, the President noted that the requsite processes has commenced regarding the petition.

“The President has, in accordance with Article 146(6) of the Constitution, commenced the appropriate processes subsequent to being petitioned for the removal of the Chief Justice.

Speaking on Eyewitness news, Mr. Thompson said, “I think it’s quite delightful just as we have expected the President to do. There is nothing unusual about it because the Constitution is very clear on what the processes are.”

“The President is supposed to act as a mere conveyer. The President does not make any determination. The Constitution did not grant the President those powers.”

“The only process Constitution allows the President to do is to, in consultation with the Council of State, set up a panel to look into the issue”, he said.

He further said that his outfit holds no prejudice against the Chief Justice but only seeks to get to the buttom and clear the judiciary.
