Lawyer Akoto Ampaw Dead
Private legal practitioner Akoto Ampaw has passed on, multiple reports have confirmed.
He is said to have died while receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC) on Friday, October 20, 2023.
He was 52 years old.
Lawyer Ampaw was known among the legal team of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). He represented them on iconic occasions including both elections petitions in 2013 and 2020. He was also popular for his human rights advocacy.
As a lawyer, he specialized in commercial law, company law, industrial law and litigation and was a partner of President Akufo-Addo’s law firm, Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co.
Tributes have been pouring in following the news on Friday morning.
Lawyer and activist Oliver Barker Vormawor called him a “moral voice” and mourned his death.
“So devastated to hear of the death of Lawyer Akoto Ampaw This country has lost a moral voice.”
Television show host Okatakyie Afrifa also posted, “On this day of honour for new lawyers, an Oak tree in the fraternity has fallen. R.I.P AKOTO AMPAW ESQ”
Gender activist Dela Goldheart said “We have lost someone who had the strength to think differently and stand for that needed difference. I will miss him”
Policy Analyst and Vice President of Imani Africa, Selorm Branttie said Lawyer Ampaw was his favourite legal practitioner.
He posted, “Oh nooo….. Lawyer Akoto Ampaw? That’d really sad. One lawyer I respect and admire so much!”
