We Don’t Sell Blood – KATH
Mr. Kwame Frimpong, the Head of Public Relations at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, has dispelled the misunderstanding regarding the sale of blood at KATH.
During an interview on Opemsuo Radio’s Nkwantannanso with Kofi Boakye on September 14, he clarified that KATH does not sell blood but rather charges for the screening process associated with it.
“Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital doesn’t sell blood; blood is free. However, when patients arrive with their donors, we need to conduct tests. The test kit is expensive. We even subsidized the cost of the screening. This is a misconception.”
He further emphasized that KATH, despite its role as a pivotal healthcare institution serving 12 regions, has not undergone substantial renovations since its inception.
The hospital is eagerly awaiting the return of the King of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, from Scotland.
His return will mark the launch of a crucial fundraising campaign to renovate the hospital, although the specific launch date is yet to be determined.
The commitment to renovate the hospital was made by Otumfuo Osei Tutu during a courtesy visit by a delegation from KATH on August 24, 2023.
As part of the legacy projects commemorating the 25th Anniversary of his enstoolment as Asantehene next year, Blocks A, B, C, and D of KATH will undergo extensive renovations.
The ambitious fundraising campaign aims to secure $10 million to modernize the inpatient wards of KATH, ensuring they meet contemporary healthcare standards.
