Ghana Has Spent ₵15.6 Million On Mahama Since 2017; Abronye Alleges

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye has alleged that ₵15, 612,319.00 has been spent by the State on former president John Dramani Mahama since he left office in 2017.

Out of the said amount, Abronye claimed ₵1, 934,823 amounts to his salaries; ₵629,487 for his accommodation; ₵2,484,000 paid to his staffers; ₵1,600,000 for his transportation; ₵8,640,000 on his travels; and 324,000 for fuel.

According to the regional chairman, Mahama retired on a salary of ₵22,809, however, it was increased in line with the emolument committee’s recommendation to ₵35,000 monthly.

He also alleged that Mahama received ₵9,123 as rent monthly.

Additionally, he said the State has employed for the former president four staff members including Joyce Bawa Mogtari and Felix Ofosu Kwakye who receive a monthly allowance of 9,000 as well as “a furnished and up-to-date office located at Cantonment in Accra and communication equipment and staff support consisting of a cook, steward and gardener”.

Abronye claimed that the state has provided Mahama with two Land cruiser V8 which are maintained and insured by the state, plus a chauffeur.

The vehicles, he said, are fueled with State funds weekly at a cost of ₵2,000.

Finally, he alleged that since 2017, the state has funded 12 trips of the president at a cost of ₵8.6 million.

He noted that the total of ₵15.6 Million excludes the salaries of his gardener, two security officers, his driver and cooks.

Abronye on that note, challenged the former president to refund all monies he has received from the state since 2019 if he indeed cares about the economic woes of the State as he claims.
