Gov’t Approves Payment Of 10 Months’ Arrears For JUSAG And Lower Court Bench Members

The Ministry of Finance has approved the payment of arrears for staff of the Judicial Service and members of the Lower Court Bench following the implementation of their new conditions of service.

In a letter dated November 2, 2026, signed by the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, and addressed to the Controller and Accountant-General, the Ministry recalled that pursuant to Article 149 of the 1992 Constitution, H.E. the President granted approval for the implementation of new conditions of service for staff of the Judicial Service and members of the Lower Court Bench, with effect from January 1, 2026.

“In line with the government’s resolve not to accrue arrears, approval is hereby granted for the payment of the associated arrears per the schedule below,” the Minister stated.

According to the approved schedule, the first tranche of arrears covering five months from January to May 2026 will be paid in November 2026, while the second tranche covering five months from June to October 2026 will be paid in December 2026.

The letter directed the Controller and Accountant-General to give effect to the approval.

The approval comes amid an ongoing strike by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) over conditions of service, which the Association says remains in force until a revised and improved approval that satisfies its demands is received.
