Ten Paramount Chiefs Appointed to Constitute Asanteman Standing Committee

A 15-member Standing Committee of the Asanteman Council has been reconstituted at the instance of the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The list which includes 10 paramount chiefs was made public on October 19, 2026, when the Council convened at the Manhyia Palace.

The committee, chaired by Daasebre Osei Bonsu, Asante Mamponghene, includes two representatives each from the Bono Region, Bono East Region, Ashanti Region, Ahafo Region, Kumasi and one each from Oti Region and Eastern Region.

Representatives from the Ahafo Region include Ntotorosohene and Hwediemhene, while Bekwaihene and Manso Nkwantahene represent the Ashanti Region.

Japekromhene and Sampahene represent the Bono Region; Nkoranzahene and Amantenhene represent the Bono East Region; Bantamahene and Akwamuhene represent Kumasi; Woraworahene represents Oti Region; and Dikomanhene represent the Eastern Region.

The committee is also augmented by two linguists of the Asantehene, including Kyeame Nsuase Poku and Baffour Kantankrankye.

It also has on board the Registrar of the Asanteman Council.

Role
The terms of reference of the Committee, as solicited from the members of the Asanteman Council, focus on safeguarding tradition and culture, spurring development, clamping down on anti-Asante acts, restoring order in various Asante paramountcies, and rallying behind paramount chiefs, among other duties.

The Committee will liaise with the Asanteman Council and the various regions for the prompt resolution of emerging issues.

In his remarks, Otumfuo tasked the Asante Mamponghene and members of the committee to give careful heed to the concerns raised by Nananom and carve out formal terms of reference for the committee.

His Majesty announced plans to meet the committee members before their mandate takes effect.

Meetings
He also encouraged the committee to exercise diligence and meticulousness in their investigations to avoid errors, affirming that the designated days for Council meetings will no longer be strictly observed when the processing of cases is complete.

“Our meetings will no longer be limited to the second Monday after Akwasidae. If we go by that arrangement, we will meet nine times every year. However, with this committee in place, you can call for a meeting anytime you are ready and prepared. This means we can meet four times a year instead of nine. We don’t want you to rush things and err.”

His Majesty further noted that all cases involving the Great Oath must not be delayed.

These cases, he said, must first come before him for the requisite rites before they are referred to the committee.

Confidence
The Asantehene then expressed confidence in Daasebre.

“You have sworn allegiance to me, and so I know you will not break your oath.”
