GRA Intercepts Ammunition Concealed as Personal Effects at Tema Port

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has intercepted ammunition and firearms concealed as personal effects at the Tema Port.

According to the Authority, the interception occurred on September 25, 2026, at 17:15 hrs, when two officers were conducting a routine inspection.

“Two officers were doing a routine inspection of items and discovered, intercepted and seized three weapons and 610 pieces of ammunition during examination,” the statement said.

The items were being brought into the country as personal effects; however, upon further examination, officers discovered three firearms comprising one assault rifle and two pistols, 610 rounds of ammunition and other firearm-related accessories.

“These things were not declared but were discovered,” the GRA noted.

The Division assured the public that it remained vigilant and committed to protecting Ghana’s borders and ensuring national security.

It affirmed that it had stepped up examination and scanning of items at all points of entry and exit to intercept illegally imported items.
