Woman Behind Vira Great Oath Invocation Against Aduabenhemaa Fined

The Adonten Division Council of the Kumasi Traditional Council has fined one Maame Timah two sheep and GH¢2,000 for wrongly invoking the Great Oath against Nana Ama Kyifa II, Aduabenhemaa.

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, when the case was called before members of the Council.

The sitting offered the woman a chance to be heard.

Invocation
Maame Timah invoked the sacred oath against Nana Ama Kyifa II, claiming she was not related to the royal lineage to occupy the female stool.

She argued that Nana Ama Kyifa II’s bloodline was linked to Poano and therefore questioned her eligibility to ascend the stool.

Before the Council, Maame Timah stated that she was authorised by her uncle to invoke the Great Oath against the queen, a claim that was verified.

Conviction
The Council, in its ruling, held that the invocation of the Great Oath cannot be done by proxy per Asante tradition, and subsequently convicted her for wrongful invocation.

The Council fined her two rams and GH¢2,000.

After a plea, the head of the Adonten Division, Nana Adu Gyamfi, spared the family head and directed him to personally pursue his cause if he had any genuine concern.
