KMA Issues Final Evacuation Notice to Occupants At Abrepo Junction

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a final notice to all traders, garage operators, businesses and property occupants at Abrepo Junction and its adjoining sections to vacate the area.
They have until Sunday, October 4, 2026, to move out.
The Assembly, in a press release dated October 1, 2026, said the notice forms part of measures to pave the way for the commencement of preparatory and enabling works under Phase 1 of the Suame Interchange Project.
According to the KMA, Phase 2 of the project is currently 87% complete and is expected to be opened to traffic by October 2026.
The completion of Phase 2 will facilitate the start of intensive works under Phase 1, which includes the construction of a three-tier interchange at Suame, two overpasses at Abrepo and Krofrom Junctions, as well as the widening of the Eastern and Western Bypass Roads.
The Assembly explained that preparatory works at the Abrepo section will involve the relocation of affected utility infrastructure, including pipelines of the Ghana Water Company Limited and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) lines, as well as preparations for traffic management within the project corridor.
It said that following earlier engagements with stakeholders, occupants in the designated areas had already been given notice to relocate voluntarily.
“The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly therefore wishes to emphasise that the deadline for voluntary relocation is Sunday, 4th October 2026,” the statement stressed.
Accordingly, from Thursday, October 8, 2026, a designated demolition and enforcement team from the KMA will commence the removal of all unauthorised structures, goods, equipment, building materials and other items remaining within the project area.
The Assembly cautioned that it will not be responsible for any loss or damage arising from items left behind after the deadline.
Affected traders who require alternative space have been advised to relocate to the Racecourse Market, while garage operators may contact the Works Engineer at the Racecourse Market for assistance in identifying suitable relocation sites.
