Mother of Suspected Robber, 4 Others Arrested

The police have arrested the mother of a suspected highway robbery gang leader for allegedly hiding a gun used in a robbery on the Nsawam stretch of the Accra-Kumasi N6 highway.
Four other suspects in the gang, including a 14-year-old boy said to have acted as a lookout and alert person for the gang, have also been arrested.
The robbery occurred on August, 18, 2026.
The suspects include the alleged gang leader, named by the police as Obotan. His biological mother, Isaka Nafse, who is alleged to have supplied weapons to the gang, Isaka Majid and the 14-year-old boy.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at a press briefing in Accra on Monday afternoon said the gang leader’s mother was arrested after she was accused of concealing a weapon used in the robbery at her residence.
He said a search of the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of a number of weapons and other items suspected to be linked to the robbery.
The items recovered included a pump-action gun, a double-barrel gun, three single-barrel guns, two AA cartridges and a locally manufactured pistol.
The police also recovered three cutlasses, two pairs of handcuffs, two jackknives, a canister of pepper spray, a metal bar, an ammunition pouch, a tactical vest and an unregistered Royal 125 motorbike at the residence.
Mr Yohuno said all the suspects were in police custody and assisting with investigations.
He said the police were also pursuing another suspect identified as Tanko.
