NIA Clarifies Ghana Card Fees, Says Prestige Centres Are Optional and Parliament Approved
The National Identification Authority (NIA) says its 276 district offices across the country remain operational and well-resourced to provide Ghana Card services at standard fees, while its Prestige Centres remain an optional superior service approved by Parliament.
The Authority said at the district office level, first-time registration is free for persons below 25 years, while persons aged 25 years and above pay a GH¢30 processing fee.
Card replacement is GH¢200; record update only is free, while record update with replacement of card is GH¢200.
Other district fees are GH¢200 for nationality update, GH¢150 for card renewal and GH¢75 for card transfer services, excluding courier service.
For its Premium Centres, the NIA’s parliament-approved fees are GH¢410 for first-time registration, GH¢520 for card replacement, GH¢410 for record update with replacement of card, GH¢410 for nationality record update, GH¢410 for card renewal and GH¢165 for record update only.
At the 24-hour Prestige Registration Centres, which operate seven days a week, the fees are GH¢610 for first-time registration, GH¢720 for card replacement, GH¢655 for record update with replacement of card, GH¢655 for nationality record update, GH¢610 for card renewal and GH¢400 for record update only.
The NIA stressed that the Prestige Centres do not replace the regular district offices and are entirely optional.
It said all fees, including those for Premium and Prestige services, are part of the 2025 Fees and Charges approved by Parliament, and are meant to ensure the Authority continues to deliver secure, efficient and accessible identity services nationwide.
