Ghana Renews Commitment to Textile, Fashion Industries Through EcoMark Africa Initiative
Ghana has renewed its commitment to strengthening the textile, leather and fashion industries through the implementation of harmonised African sustainability standards under the EcoMark Africa Initiative.
The commitment was made by the Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi (MP), on behalf of the sector Minister, at the opening of a two-day awareness workshop in Accra on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Speaking at the workshop, Hon. Ahi said the initiative provides an opportunity for Africa to improve competitiveness, meet global market demands and promote sustainable production.
He noted that modern markets increasingly value products that meet environmental, social and quality standards, and stressed that adopting credible sustainability standards will help Ghanaian businesses gain market confidence, attract investment and expand exports.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the government’s vision to grow Ghana’s textiles and garments sector, create jobs, revive cotton production and position the country as a hub for ethical and sustainable apparel manufacturing in West Africa.
