Gender Ministry Validates Framework to Strengthen Coordination of Social Protection in Ghana

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has taken a major step to streamline the delivery of social protection programmes in the country with the validation of a new framework aimed at improving coordination across the sector.

The Ministry, through its Social Protection Directorate, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, organised a one-day National Validation Workshop in Accra to review and build consensus on the proposed Framework for Coordination, Collaboration, and Complementarity of Social Protection in Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Director of the Social Protection Directorate, Madam Francisca Atuluk, said an integrated and well-coordinated social protection system is critical to achieving sustainable national development.

She acknowledged that while Ghana has made significant progress in implementing various social protection programmes, stronger institutional coordination is still needed to maximise impact and improve service delivery.

Madam Atuluk explained that the framework provides a structured mechanism for stakeholder engagement, clarifies institutional mandates and responsibilities, strengthens accountability, and promotes effective coordination across the social protection sector.

She reiterated that the Government of Ghana, under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, remains committed to strengthening social protection as a catalyst for inclusive growth, social justice, and sustainable national development.

She further urged participants to contribute actively and provide practical, evidence-based recommendations to strengthen the framework and support its successful implementation.

The Social Protection Consultant, Dr Esther Ofei-Aboagye, took stakeholders through the draft framework, after which participants engaged in plenary discussions to review the document and make recommendations to enhance its implementation.

The validated framework is expected to serve as a strategic guide for strengthening coordination, collaboration, and complementarity in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of social protection interventions across Ghana.
