Why Asante Akim Has Been Experiencing Frequent Power Outages

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has cited congestion on the Juansa feeder for the frequent power outages at Asante Akim in the Ashanti Region.

According to him, the Juansa feeder spans approximately 234.5 circuit kilometres with an extended length, resulting in low voltage conditions for customers located at the tail end of the line.

He said Asante Akim North, which has been bearing the brunt, is under the Electricity Corporation of Ghana (ECG), Konongo District, which originates from the Konongo Primary substation and is served by the Juansa feeder.

He reported that between April 1 and September 30, 2025, the feeder recorded three unplanned outages and five planned outages.

Hon Jinapor explained that two of the planned outages were due to ECG emergency loadshedding, one for GRIDCo load shedding, and two additional for corrective maintenance.

He indicated that in the immediate term, voltage improvement Technology (VIT) installations have been deployed on the feeder to improve service delivery.

The Minister delved into this issue when he appeared before Parliament for questions on November 11, 2025.
