Xlimkid Shares Journey, Sarkodie Collaboration and New Single ‘Like Dat’ on Kumasefie

Ghanaian artiste Xlimkid has reflected on his rising music career, describing the progress as steady and rewarding. Speaking on Kumasefie, he said the journey has been fulfilling.

“Anytime I drop a single, I see the growth and that’s what we are looking for,” he stated.

He recounted how his connection with O’Kenneth and the Asakaa boys began after they discovered him in Accra, where he initially started recording music. According to him, their chemistry was instant.

“We started everything from scratch. We didn’t even plan an album. We were just recording songs, and when we put everything together, it felt like a body of work,” he explained.

He said the authenticity of their collaboration resonated with fans.

“It was so raw, that’s why people related to it raw emotions,” he added.

Addressing questions about his current relationship with O’Kenneth, Xlimkid clarified that both artistes had established individual careers before joining forces.

“I was an independent artiste before they discovered me… sometimes people expect too much,” he said. “We are cool, but it’s been quite long since we spoke because we’ve both been busy. They should focus on the music any message they want to hear will be in the music.”

Xlimkid also described his collaboration with Sarkodie as a long-awaited dream come true.

“I’ve always been a die-hard Sarkodie fan. I used to defend him in class,” he recalled.

He credited Sconzy GH, a close associate of the rapper, for introducing his sound to Sarkodie and keeping him updated on his progress.

“Sconzy really liked my sound and started showing my songs to Sarkodie… from time to time they were following my journey,” he said.

He added that Sarkodie later recorded a song and chose him as the best fit for it.

“It was a true manifestation because Sarkodie is a legend,” he emphasized.

The artiste also revealed that his first and second year in the industry opened conversations with various music labels, both local and international. He disclosed that he now has a distribution deal with Sony Music, describing it as another marker of growth.

“I’m proud of myself and everybody supporting me,” he said.

Reflecting on his upbringing in Esereso, Xlimkid said his family’s strong musical background and his emotional nature have had a major influence on his sound.

“My mother, my siblings almost everybody sings. I was very close to my mom,” he noted.

While many assume his lyrics are entirely personal, he clarified that inspiration often comes from beyond him.

“Sometimes the words come naturally, it’s God speaking through me, he added.

Xlimkid also spoke about his childhood talents, saying he excelled in entertainment-related activities and always sensed a greater purpose.

“I knew in my heart I had to be great,” he said. “Right now, I feel fulfilled. I’m on that path.”

He concluded by announcing his new single, “Like Dat,” which he described as “a Highlife sample fused into a sexy drill vibe,” revealing that it samples legendary musician Kwadwo Antwi.
