Valentine’s Day Is Not For Promiscuity – GTA Boss

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mr Frederick Adjei-Rudolph has emphasized a shift in focus away from promiscuity towards genuine expressions of love during Valentine’s Day celebrations.

“Unlike in the past when people used to think that Valentine’s Day is for lovers only and the youth of the country abused it, the focus has shifted from promiscuity to showing genuine love to those close to you especially the vulnerable.”

He highlighted the commercial aspect of it, noting increased sales of gift items by traders.

“Now when you pass by Adum and Poku Trading, you will see they have packed vals day items and when you talk to the traders they can confirm that on vals day, their sales increase in terms of gift items, chocolates and all that.”

Speaking on the health benefits of cocoa products with Opemsuo Radio’s Kwame Awuah Nimfour, he encouraged the consumption of chocolates on Valentine’s Day which also coincides with Chocolate Day. He stressed the importance of Chocolate Day being celebrated by all Ghanaians, urging district assemblies, traditional leaders, schools, and others to join in by sharing chocolates and promoting love and unity.

The overarching theme for this year’s Chocolate Day celebration is “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana,” with the sub-theme “Explore Ghana, Eat Ghana”.
