Trinidad and Tobago PM Acts On Asantehene’s Counsel
Following Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s counsel and direction proffered as a solution to the economic struggles of Africa and the Caribbean, the Prime Minister for Trinidad and Tobago Dr Keith Rowley has taken action to reap the full interest.
His Majesty during a lecture at the University of West Indies on a state visit to Trinidad and Tobago last year called for the pulling of resources among countries of African descent and increased trade and cooperation among such countries.
This, he stated, would lift these countries out of the economic distress into the prosperity of their destiny.
It is in this spirit that Trinidad and Tobago has embarked on the quest to deepen its relations with Ghana.
Recalling the words of His Majesty during his speech at the climax of the 25th Anniversary celebration of Otumfuo on March 12, 2024, the Prime Minister said, “Your Majesty, you have consistently emphasised your commitment to the fraternal ties that link Trinidad and Tobago to Ghana. Your leadership has stimulated increased collaboration between our countries which offer mutually beneficial trade and economic opportunities to aid in our mutual development.”
He informed Otumfuo that the quickest and most effective avenues had been explored to enable the two countries to have the smooth movement of people, goods and capital between either country.
These agreements, as they are, are envisioned to improve the tourism and trade outlook between Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago with all the attendant economic benefits.
“I also have had abundant opportunities to interact with His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana to explore functional cooperations in areas such as Agriculture, Energy, Education, Culture, Tourism, Trade and Transportation. We have exchanged delegations in both directions, exploring trades and investment opportunities for offerings on both markets, always remaining focused on the many commonalities and synergies that we share.”
He also anticipates many other trade paths in the years to come.
“As we move forward together we will see additional areas of collaboration and strengthen our relationship one step at a time.”
