Takoradi Police Officer Interdicted
A police officer has found himself on the wrong side of the law and his professional ethics following an alleged abuse against a member of the public.
Details of the assault are still unknown despite the release of a statement to communicate his interdiction on February 2, 2024, by the police administration.
The officer identified as № 49187 General Corporal Wise Bessey, until his interdiction, was with the Takoradi District Police Command.
“The Ghana Police Service has interdicted a Police officer, № 49187 General Corporal Wise Bessey, stationed at the Takoradi District Police Command, for an alleged assault on a member of the public in Takoradi in the Western Region,” the statement confirmed.
It noted that the interdiction is meant to make way for thorough investigations into the allegation.
“The interdiction is to allow for a thorough investigation into the incident and the professional conduct of the Police officer in line with Police Service Regulations.”
Meanwhile, the statement noted the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare has reached out to the victim.
“The victim has been contacted by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and, the IGP has assured him of the needed Police assistance and a thorough investigation into the incident.”
“We would like to assure the general public that the Police will continue to ensure that professionalism is maintained at all times in the discharge of our mandate,” it added.
