We’ve Identified Irregularities With 962 Active Mining Licences- Dep Lands Minister

The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Alhaji Yussif Sulemana, has revealed that 962 out of 1,278 active small-scale mining leases contain irregularities.
This came to light during a comprehensive review of all existing mining leases.
He made the disclosure during a stakeholder meeting on the 2014-Mining Policy and proposed amendments to the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703) with the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs on July 18, 2025.
This was in response to Nana Dwamena Akenten II, Offinsohene’s concern about recent issuance of a mining lease by the Minerals Commission to mine in his community.
Hon Sulemana noted that no new lease had been issued since the government took over, adding that all leases submitted are forged.
“We have revoked all mining leases that were issued after December 7, 2024. Therefore, any lease presented to you for mining is fake.”
He said he was mandated to review existing licences, and the report found that only 316 active mining licences are valid.
“The report is yet to be submitted to the Office of the Minister and once it’s submitted, the appropriate action will be taken.”
