KATH Says Goodbye to Prof. Addae-Mensah, Welcomes Dr. Baidoo

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has officially bid farewell to Prof. Otchere Addae-Mensah, its immediate past Chief Executive Officer, and welcomed Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo as the new Chief Executive.

It was a mix of emotions for the management and staff of the hospital, who gathered at the Staff Common Room on Monday, May 5, 2025, for a brief farewell and introductory ceremony.

Prof. Otchere Addae-Mensah was relieved of his post last week after serving for over 18 months, following his appointment by the previous government.

His dismissal shocked many stakeholders, considering his outstanding service, which manifested in both the facility’s physical uplift and improved service delivery.

Speaking during the brief send-off ceremony, Prof. Otchere Addae-Mensah recalled some of his statements made during his initial service in the same hall.

He said that these remarks were meant to encourage the team to uplift the status of the facility in healthcare provision.

In his farewell message, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with such wonderful people from management down to every staff member.

“We have become a family, we have shared ties, we have had casual discussions, and I’m super excited that that bond exists,” he said.

He also reflected on the significant changes that had occurred during his leadership, noting that before his appointment, there had been a huge gap between management and staff.

“One of the major things I saw from afar and even felt when I first came here was a divide between the staff and management. I’m sure you agree with me that, as I speak, the gap has narrowed.”

While thanking the staff, he urged them to support the incoming Chief Executive and expressed optimism that, with the necessary support, they could sustain and build upon the progress made.

After his remarks, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Chairman of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), was introduced as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the hospital.

In his remarks, Dr. Baidoo expressed gratitude to the outgoing CEO, Prof. Otchere Addae-Mensah, acknowledging his impactful leadership, which had transformed the facility.

He also thanked the management and staff of the hospital and pledged an open-door policy to all stakeholders, particularly the staff, to improve healthcare at the facility.
