Police Arrest Man For Giving Kid Cigarette

The police have arrested the man behind a viral video in which a substance suspected to be a cigarette was given to a child.

The suspect, identified as Samuel Obeng Acheampong, was arrested on November 22, 2025, through an intelligence-led operation, a police statement communicated.

“Suspect admitted to the offence during interrogation and indicated to Police that the incident occurred about five (5) years ago. The suspect is in custody, assisting the investigation, and will be put before the court.”

Meanwhile, the police said they remain committed to ensuring the safety of children and would like to caution the public against acts that expose children to harm, since perpetrators will be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law.

It comes after the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection forwarded the video to the CID for immediate action.

In a statement, it described the video as “disturbing”, adding that exposing children to harmful substances constitutes child endangerment.

“This conduct is abusive and a clear violation of the child’s rights and dignity, and it is punishable by law.”

“It contravenes the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560), which mandates that every child should be protected from exposure to physical, psychological, and moral harm. It also undermines key objectives in the Early Childhood Care and Development Policy, which promotes holistic child development and protection in safe and nurturing environments.”
