Some Doctors Were Harassed Out Of Their Homes By Private Developers – KATH PRO

Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have faced harassment from private developers, leading some to leave their accommodation, according to the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Kwame Frimpong.

The PRO stated that there is evidence showing that private developers of the land where doctors’ bungalows are situated have harassed some doctors to the extent that they felt compelled to find alternative housing.

“Recently some doctors started complaining of some of the developers, they want to frustrate them so that they leave. In fact there is evidence that someone left because of the harrassment.”

Speaking in an interview with Opemsuo Radio’s Kofi Boakye on Nkwantannanso, the PRO clarified that there is no intention from any authority to evict doctors from their homes without providing alternative accommodation first.

“We have interacted with authorities such as the Lands Commision and none has officially sanctioned what the doctors are going through and the assurance we have from the minister is that, until the accommodation is ready, they are not ready to push anyone out. if anything they will rent for the doctors.”

The PRO confirmed that the land is currently under the control of private developers.

The situation prompted doctors at KATH to announce their intention to embark on industrial action starting Wednesday, March 13, 2024. This decision was triggered by eviction notices served to consultants and specialist doctors residing in the Danyame enclave by a private developer.

In a letter addressed to Prof. Otchere Addai, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, the Komfo Anokye Doctors Association highlighted that they are facing daily threats of utility cutoffs by the developer, which they described as inhumane.

On the day of the strike, doctors were present at work due to stakeholder engagement, although their work did not proceed as expected, according to the PRO.
