Security Raids on Former Gov’t Officials Justified – Deputy Presidential Spokesperson

Shamima Muslim, the Deputy Presidential spokesperson has justified the raid of homes of some former government officials in recent times by operatives of the national security.
The recent raid by armed men took place on Wednesday dawn at the Roman Ridge residence of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison.
It is reported that the personnel forced themselves onto the premises, disabled the CCTV system and then ransacked it, leaving the former official and his family in emotional distress.
Reacting to the news, Shamima said visiting the residence of persons of interest was part of the information-gathering process.
“There are some investigations ongoing, there are persons of interest who will be now and again invited to help the investigation process. There are means of gathering information, and one of the means is to visit the homes of these persons of interest,” she told TV3 in an interview.
“Individuals who are individuals of interest will be pursued in all the available options to the security agencies to gather their intelligence and to take the necessary action so that we can bring the accountability that we promised the good people of Ghana that voted us into power by such a resounding mandate.”
She, however, furthered that the fundamental human rights of such individuals remain a priority though missteps could happen.
“There could be times that may be in the execution of some due process that might be some missteps. We are not a party not to recognise when mistakes are made and redress them.”
“But what we can tell the general public is that there is a new heart to leadership. A heart that is very in tune with the people that it is leading and a heart that wants the best for the nation and wants to lead a nation that is fair, just, and equitable to all Ghanaians, even those that may be found on the wrong side of the law.
“Even convicted criminals have rights that must be enforced and so you will not have the person of President Mahama to seem to be flagrantly abusing the rights of citizens. It won’t happen but due process will happen.”
