Prez Wasn’t Angry At Henry Quartey; Greater Accra RCC Clarifies Viral Video
The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) has clarified the misinterpretation of a viral video from the Green Ghana Day Celebration at the University of Ghana, Legon on June 9, 2023.
The video showed President Akufo-Addo angrily communicating to the Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, who stood on his right side with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, on his left side.
The outburst of the President was right after the national anthem had been sung at the event.
The gesture of the President has been interpreted as an outburst at the Regional Minister but a statement from the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has clarified the President was rather upset about the unpatriotic action of some guests at the event while the national anthem played.
It stated that the President was instructing the Regional Minister to put those guests- the Chief of Mempeasem, Nii Torgbor Obodai Ampaw VI and his elders who were seated as the anthem was sung- to order.
“On the contrary, the President was instructing the Regional Minister to take prompt action regarding some guests who chose to remain seated in disregard to the National Anthem that was played before the start of the program. The President and all others had been up on their feet in patriotic reverence to the National Anthem.
“Acting on the President’s directive, the Regional Minister promptly approached the individuals concerned and gave them the necessary information and guidance. It is important to emphasize that the Regional Minister sat alongside H.E. the President throughout the entire event, exemplifying their harmonious collaboration.”
