Police Shoot Down June 4 Demo Over Its Nature
The Ghana Police Service has said it has turned down organisers of the intended June 4 demonstration over the nature of the protest they desire to undertake.
This is because organisers of the protest wish to rather contract private security personnel and arm them to protect protesters on June 4, 2022, the day slated for the beginning of the three-day demonstration.
This, the police said is inconsistent with Pubic Order Act.
“We would like to assure the public that the Police Service is ready and willing to provide the necessary protection for any lawful demonstration in the country. However, in this case, the Service is of the view that the nature and character of the demonstration as intended, is inconsistent with the Punic Order Act”.
It opined that such a demonstration has the potential to breach public safety.
It, therefore, has given the organisers of the protest, the option to reconsider their proposal.
