Police Arrest Agradaa

Fetish priest turned Evangelist, Patricia Asiedua popular as Agradaa has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service over alleged money-doubling fraud.

The news of her arrest was announced by the police on Sunday, October 9, 2022.

According to the police, the founder of Heaven Way church is assisting the police in the investigations.

The police have also urged victims of the alleged scam to report to the Accra Regional Police Command.

She was arrested after some alleged members of the former fetish priest filed a police report to the effect that she had scammed them during a watch night service on Friday, October 7, 2022.

“The Police have commenced investigation into alleged money doubling scam allegedly perpetrated against some members of the Heaven Way Church in Weija, Accra, by the founder of the church Patricia Asiedua.

“The investigation was initiated following reports that have come to the attention of the Police on the matter”, a statement from the police on Saturday, October 8, 2022, said.

Ahead of the October 7 watch night Service, Agradaa advertised she was going to distribute money to all persons who will attend the service, in a video.

After the service, some alleged members of the church were captured on camera expressing their displeasure and anger at the over what they claimed was defrauding.

According to one of the attendees, Agradaa had taken as much as ¢2,000 from some without “doubling it as promised in her advertisement”.

One woman was captured cursing the evangelist and her junior pastors.

But in a video posted on the Facebook page of Agradaa’s Television Station on Sunday, the self-styled evangelist denied scamming anyone and sent a message out to her church members telling them she could not be part of the Sunday Service because she was tired from the watch night service she conducted.

“Today I wasn’t able to attend church. I’m very tired. I wasn’t able to lead service today because I’m tired. I was stressed due to the all-night service and for that reason, I wasn’t able to lead the service but the Service will take place because Reverend Mama Pat, I have trained pastors so that during my down moments, they take over. Due to the Watch night, I couldn’t attend church so I’m home. I’m home… I’m tired, I’ve even lost my voice”.

According to her, she promised to disburse money to her existing members and not new ones and that was why not all could get some of the money she shared.

“Let me take this opportunity to talk about the video which has gone viral. Rev Mama Pat, I came out to say I was giving out money to my church members to venture into businesses of their choice. I called on anyone who needed some of the money to come, get saved, write their name with our church and begin coming to church. So if I have conducted a watch night service and disbursed money among my members and as a new member, you couldn’t get some, I have not wronged you, I have not defrauded you.

“Everyone bears witness that we disbursed money during the service and everyone knows offerings are taken during church service… We began taking offerings from GHc1,000 to the least and those who didn’t have physical cash were given the option to use Mobile Money”.

The news of her arrest has received mixed reactions from social media users. Whereas some commended the police for the arrest, others said it was a waste of time and others predicted she would be set free when court proceedings begin.

“Ghana police, if not for law like I would say forget this case, the people who did that must think next time”, one Twitter account holder said.

Another said,“Why is @Ghana police Service not looking for the owner of “Akonta mining” but rather looking for Agradaa?”.

”Kwashey boys are taking peoples belongings forcefully from them, Ghana police dey cone waste time on people who deliberately gave their money away to Nana Agradaa? Oh how”, another held.

“Ghana Police is working”, another said.
