Parliament Summons Interior Minister Over Asawase Clash
The Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, has been summoned to appear before Parliament on August 1, 2023, to address the alleged police brutalities that resulted in the death of 30-year-old Salawudeen Shila.
The Member of Parliament for Asawase, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, made an appeal on the floor of Parliament for the Minister to provide clarity on the incident that led to the irate youth attacking the Asawase police station on Sunday.
In response to the appeal, the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, ruled in favour of summoning the Minister to brief the house on the matter and take necessary action accordingly.
The Asawase Police Station, located in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti region, was the target of an attack by enraged youth from the area.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening and came as a response to the alleged assault and death of Salawudeen Shila during a police swoop at Asawase Goro.
