Otumfuo Praises Asanteman’s Inter-Ethnic Unity with Other Groups
Under the leadership of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asanteman has consciously strengthened its ties and friendship with the various ethnic groups in Ghana, an achievement His Majesty has saluted.
Otumfuo believes the reigns of traditional authorities over all the groups in Ghana would have been with little meaning and impact without the current friendship and brotherhood bonds they have strove to build and share.
He said this during the climax of his Silver Jubilee Anniversary Celebrations at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi attended by almost all leaders of multicultural backgrounds in the country including the Awomefia of Anlo State, Togbe Siri II and Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru.
Addressing them in his speech, he said, “From the overlords from the north to the paramount chiefs from all sections of our nation, in your magnificent smocks and elegant Kente cloths in the dazzling adornment of gold and silver, you present the true tapestry of a culture that can never diminish.”
He also indicated that the utmost goal must be to forge unity amid their cultural diversities.
“It is the harmony in diversity which we all seek. Our journey would have been with little consequences without the bonds of friendship and brotherhood we have experienced…I’m grateful for the fruitful exchange of visits for our shared experiences.”
His Majesty in his interactions with leaders of different ethnic groups has always called for unity and oneness hinging his statements on historical antecedents and in the process, debunking presumed hostility between Asanteman and others.
This was seen during his visit to the Volta region for the 60th edition of the Hogbetsotso festival in 2022. It was as well witnessed during a courtesy call by emissaries of Ga Mantse to invite His Majesty to the final funeral rites of the Paramount Queen mother Naa Dedei Omaedru III in 2023.
