Roads Ministry Provides Update On Accra-Kumasi Highway Dualisation

According to the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the project to dualise the Accra-Kumasi highway which has since time immemorial claimed lives and caused vehicular traffic is steadily progressing as construction of four major by-passes carries on.

Currently, the construction of culverts, bridges, box culverts, pipe culverts and earthworks are being undertaken on the road, the Ministry said in an update.


It comes after the sector Minister, Hon Kwasi Atta who has declared 2024 the Year of Roads visited the construction site on Wednesday, January 4, 2024.

“Work is progressing steadily on the construction of four major by-passes on the Accra-Kumasi highway,” an update from the Ministry said.


“The by-passes; the 11.6Km Osino by-pass, the 6.1 Km Anyinam bypass, the 10.6Km Enyiresi by-pass and the 13.5K Konogo by-pass; are part of the ongoing efforts by the government to dualize the Accra-Kumasi highway…So far the contractors have completed the clearing of the road alignment and are progressing with the construction of culverts, bridges, box culverts, pipe culverts and earthworks,” it added.

Work on the highway began in July 2023 after being deferred several times.


Early in 2022, the Chairman of the Roads and Transport Committee in Parliament Kennedy Osei Nyarko said the work was expected to commence in March 2022, however, his timeline failed.
