Oguaaman Makes Asantehene’s Visit Memorable

The Oguaa Traditional Area on Thursday, September 5, 2024 scripted the royal visit of the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in indelible ink.

The reception mingled in splendour and tradition was eye-catching and heartwarming.

The Asantehene took a detour to the Palace of Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Oguaamanhene at Cape Coast South on his arrival in Central Region for an honorary doctorate degree by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Thursday morning.


This gesture was in accordance with customs and tradition.

Otumfuo was accompanied by a contingent of eminent Asante traditional authorities and was welcomed by Osabarima, the Queen, Nana Ekua Abookye VI and other Oguaa Traditional chiefs.

His Majesty was welcomed amid cheers from Oguaaman and the majestic tune of traditional drums


His host through his chief linguist, Okyeame Beenyah, presented him with bottles of assorted local and foreign drinks as part of the welcome ceremony to request his mission.

It was Otumfuo Kyeame Baffour Kantankrakyi who relayed the heart and thoughts of His Majesty.

“Few months ago, Osabarima extended an invitation to Otumfuo to participate in the 25th Anniversary Ceremony and be the Guest of Honour at this year’s Oguaa Fetu Festival which invitation was gladly accepted. Prior to that, the University of Cape Coast had invited him for an honorary. Otumfuo’s visit here this week is in honour of these invitations.”


Additionally, he presented drinks also in honour of tradition on behalf of 16th Monarch of the Asante Kingdom.

Presenting them, Baffour Kantankrakyi said, “Tradition cannot be sideline in anything and so we came with some drinks in hand for the needed rites. As we all know, all spirits on this land is subject to Osabarima so take these drinks to perform the rites for our welcome.”

In his remarks, Otumfuo emphasised the element of unity the invitation and his visit portrays to the world and committed himself to make the 25th Anniversary of Osabarima whom he continuously referred as “my brother” remarkable.


He also invited Osabarima to join him at his honorary event at the UCC.

The Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Area was full of gratitude and excitement.

“I thank Otumfuo for all he has done today.”

To make the visit even more memorable, Osabarima gifted Asantehene a key- a symbolic representation of unrestricted access to his land.
