NPP to Deploy Electoral Officers, Reorganise Party After Primaries – Hon Eugene Boakye Antwi

Former Member of Parliament for Subin, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is putting measures in place to strengthen internal discipline and unity as part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of future elections.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi Boakye on Nkwantannanso on Opemsuo Radio, the former MP disclosed that arrangements are underway to deploy electoral officers across polling stations, electoral areas and constituencies to ensure proper monitoring of the party’s primaries.

“We are making arrangements to deploy electoral officers to monitor our polling stations, electoral areas, and constituencies for our primaries,” he said.

Hon. Antwi condemned the growing tendency to describe elections as a “do or die” affair, describing such behaviour as unacceptable.

“In elections, you either win or lose. I do not understand people who describe elections as ‘do or die.’ I believe such people are influenced or paid to behave that way,” he stated.

He also cautioned NPP party members against publicly attacking one another, stressing that internal disagreements should be handled with maturity and respect.

“A true NPP member will not go on television or radio to speak against a fellow party member. Leaders come and go, elections come and go, but the party remains,” he noted.

Reflecting on the party’s electoral fortunes, the former MP expressed concern about the NPP’s decline in parliamentary representation and popular vote over the years, urging members to focus on rebuilding rather than trading insults.

“The NPP is a party that Ghanaians trusted in 2016, giving us 169 seats and about 53% of the popular vote. Nine years later, we have 87 seats and about 41%,” he said, adding that the situation should worry any committed party member.

According to him, the party will undertake a major reorganisation exercise after the presidential primaries, including the election of a General Secretary, to restore discipline and cohesion.

“After the presidential primaries, the party will elect a General Secretary and embark on reorganisation. We will restore discipline and unity within the party because without these, everything we do will fail,” Hon. Antwi stressed.

He assured supporters that the NPP would rally behind whoever wins the presidential primaries, emphasising the need for collective support moving forward.

“Whoever emerges victorious in the presidential primaries will be fully accepted by the party and given our total support,” he added.
