Nkoranza Stool Elders Elect Candidates for New Chief and Queen
The vacant male and female stools of the Nkoranza Traditional Area will soon be occupied by candidates elected.
The election was done in the presence of the Asanteman Council presided over by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene during a meeting on Monday, December 16, 2024.
Stool elders of Nkoranza Traditional Area elected Prince Kwaku Soro to ascend the male stool in the Bono East Region while the Asantehene in fulfilment of the wish of the late Queen of the Area, Nana Yaa Adutwumwaa Dudaa Kani Mmrosa II announced her daughter as next Queen.
It comes after the burial of the Queen of the Area, Nana Yaa Adutwumwaa Dudaa Kani Mmrosa II.
Dispute over Male Stool
During the appearance of the stool elders at the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo recounted processes that were being taken to settle a dispute between the Queen and the Stool elders over the choice of candidate to be enstooled Chief.
He said plans were far advanced to meet both parties to settle the issue when the Queen, unfortunately, passed away.
While the Queen intended to enstool her son, stool elders opted for a different candidate.
Male Candidates
Standing before the King, three candidates interested in ascending the stool were unveiled namely Baffoe Nti, Yaw Kodom and Prince Kwaku Soro.
All the stool elders were present except one; however, at the confirmation from the candidates, Asantehene gave the nod for each of the seven elders to select their preferred choice.
Five agreed with the candidature of Prince while two agreed with that of Yaw Kodom, who had been the preferred choice of the late Queen. The other candidate did not get a vote.
Divisions Suggestions
The Asantehene after this, offered the opportunity for all divisions and Paramount chiefs present to give their take on the decision.
All urged Otumfuo to approve elected candidate to make way for peace.
Ultimate Decision
In his decision, Otumfuo affirmed his quest for peace in Nkoranza stating that he wanted a candidate who would enjoy the support of the elders to make way for peace and development.
“Nkoranza is mine. I gave it to my wife and son… When the case first came, I told them earlier I was not going to let them override the choice of my wife. She unfortunately passed away and the elders brought a plea through Juabenhene. I told them to wait till her burial. I have called now after she was buried… Had she been alive I would have allowed for case making. But she isn’t, there is a need to make way for a choice that will bring peace among the elders. As such, the choice of the majority stands.”
The elders have been charged to go and perform all the needed rites for his enstoolment and then the oath of allegiance.
To the elect, he charged, “Three bid for the stool but after all the discussions, you have been selected. Give the other contenders the due respect. We will find a day for you to swear and that is when I will give you charge of Nkoranza.”
Female Stool
His Majesty further drew attention to a wish of the late Queen which had to do with her successor.
He informed the Nkoranza stool elders how Nana Yaa Adutwumwaa Dudaa Kani Mmrosa II introduced to him her daughter years back as her successor.
“Let’s not forget that the Queen brought me his daughter to cater for her school. She told me she would be the heir to the stool when she is no longer alive… What should be done Abusuapanin?”
His Majesty thus announced his decision for the daughter of the Queen to occupy the female stool in accordance with her wish.
He told the elected male candidate, “When you are done with your enstoolment, you will enstool the daughter of the late Queen in her stead.”
