NDC Council Of Elders: This Is The Time To Be Circumspect
The Council of Elders of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged party members and leadership to be circumspect in their pronouncements.
This comes on the back of the “surprising” changes in the party’s parliamentary leadership.
Reacting to a petition by some NDC Members of Parliament (MP) against the changes, the Council of Elders said it has initiated steps to resolve the growing concerns.
“The Council of Elders of the NDC acknowledges receipt of a petition from some members of the NDC Parliamentary caucus regarding recent appointments to leadership positions.”
Over 70 MPs petitioned the Council last week following the replacement of Haruna Iddrisu with Cassiel Ato Forson as Minority Leader in Parliament; James Klutse Avedzi with Kofi Armah Buah as Deputy Minority Leader; and Muntaka Mubarak with Kwame Agboza as Chief Whip.
According to the Council, steps have been initiated on the petition and other related matters.
It added, “while this process is underway, the Council urges our Honourable Members of Parliament, Party leadership at all levels and all concerned persons to refrain from further public pronouncements on the matter in the larger interest of our great NDC. This is a time to be circumspect in order not to play into the hands of our detractors.”
It has assured the party members of an “early and principled” resolution to the issues.
“We urge all members of the NDC to re-dedicate themselves to working for victory in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 2024, to alleviate the suffering of the Ghanaian people”, the Council’s press statement said.
The party’s leadership will meet the entire NDC Caucus on Tuesday, January 31, 2022.
