NABCO directs trainees to remain at post

Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) trainees have been issued with the directive to remain at post after their two-week mandatory leave.

According to a notice to the trainees, the current decision will be maintained until a permanent arrangement is reached.

The decision was reached during a high-level stakeholder meeting with the lead NABCO Module Implementation Partners (MIPs) led by the Vice president, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, and the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare.

“The NABCO secretariat expects trainees to continue to discharge their duties diligently and professionally at their various workplaces while the scheme and the MIPs work toward a smooth final transition.”

Meanwhile, a new cohort of NABCO trainees will be recruited next year.

The Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) programme is a government initiative to address graduate unemployment to solve social problems. The focus of the initiative will be solving public service delivery in health, education, agriculture, technology, governance, and driving revenue mobilization and collection.

Launching the initiative in 2018, President Akufo-Addo said “NABCO will be the vehicle to deliver one hundred thousand (100,000) jobs in seven (7) prioritized areas, defined as the following modules: Educate Ghana; Heal Ghana; Feed Ghana; Revenue Ghana; Digitise Ghana; Enterprise Ghana; and Civic Ghana.”

A notice from the Ghana Standard Authority dated 29th October 2021 said “As part of the exit plan of the NABCO programme which ends this month, we write to inform all NABCO trainees to proceed on two weeks mandatory leave effective Monday, November 1, to November 15.

“The Mandatory leave has become necessary for management in consultation with the National NABCO secretariat to plan and strategize on retaining trainees for the services of the authority.”
