Muddy Water Not Due To Galamsey- Management Of Kintampo Water Falls
The Management of the Kintampo Water Falls has allayed fears of distressing videos and pictures of polluted water at the tourist site.
In a statement, it said the mud-turned water was not resultant effect of illegal mining popularly known as galamsey but natural phenomena which is not an “uncommon” event.
It explained that the Bono East region has over the past weeks experienced unusually heavy rainfall resulting in a significant increase in water inflow to the site. These inflows are said to contain sediment and debris leading to a “temporary” change in color of water.
It noted, “This phenomenon is not uncommon in natural systems and happens annually when heavy rainfall washes soil and sediment into the river, resulting in a brief change in water appearance. Additionally, increased water flow can disturb the natural sediment on the riverbed which can also affect the water, appearance.”
The Management then asserted that the current condition of the water fall was not due to Illegal milling activities.
It added, “We would like to reassure all prospective visitors and tourists that our facility remains in impeccable condition, and we are unwavering in our commitment to providing you with the exceptional experiences we have consistently promised.”
