MPs mourn late Okyem Aboagye

Some legislators have taken to social media to mourn the one-term former Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, Daniel Okyem Aboagye.

He died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after a short illness on Saturday, September 23, 2023, according to reports.

He was 49 years old.

Following the news, the current MP for Bantama, Francis Asenso Boakye, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, and MP for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, and others have publicly mourned his demise.

He has been described as a “respected colleague,” a “dear friend,” and a “man of many parts” by his former colleagues.

Asenso Boakye, in a social media post, said the loss is “deeply felt” but said he finds solace in the scripture which says, “To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.”

“As we mourn the loss of Daniel, let us also remember the wise saying, ‘Grief is the price we pay for love.’ It is a testament to the impact Daniel had on our lives and the love we shared with him. May his memory be a source of strength and comfort to his family, knowing that he was deeply loved and respected by many.”

The Majority leader, who is also a Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency, in his tribute, said he left a mark on the august house during his tenure in Parliament.

“Okyem, you were a man of many parts, a joy to know and work with, especially in matters of finance and economics. You left traces of astonishing debating instincts during your tenure in Parliament as MP for the good people of Bantama…Daniel, may your departing soul continue to be with us and strengthen us in the hallowed enterprise of retaining power to rebuild and reposition Ghana.”

Patrick Boamah, in a tribute he left on his Facebook wall, said he was shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Okyem and extended his condolences to the immediate family.

“Sad to learn of the shocking demise of the former Bantama MP, Hon. Daniel Okyem Aboagye this morning. My condolences go out to his immediate family, the NPP, and the good people of Bantama in the Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole. Rest well, My friend and brother Hon. Daniel Okyem Aboagye.”

Okyem served in Parliament for one term, from 2017 to 2021.
