Manhyia Palace Hosts 2nd Akwasidae
The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in accordance with the Asante calendar, held a mini durbar to mark the second Akwasidae festival of the year 2024.
The event held at the Manhyia Palace had in attendance Asanteman and guests from across the country and beyond on February 18.
Among them were the Ashanti Regional Security Council, led by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah; Opportunity International Savings and Loans Limited, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Kwame Owusu Boateng; the Church of Christ Ghana; Osibor Boxing Management and Promotion; and African Helps UK.
At noon, the King took his seat to receive homage from his subjects, with the royals being the first to pay their respects, followed by other guests.
Opportunity International Savings and Loans Limited
Among the guests was a delegation from Opportunity International Savings and Loans Limited, led by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kwame Owusu Boateng, and including the Board Chair, Katey Asem.
They expressed their appreciation to the King, for sending an emissary to the launch of their 20th Anniversary celebration on February 16, 2024, and sought the blessing of the King toward the celebrations.
In his address, Mr Owusu Boateng chronicled the inception and growth of the bank throughout the years.
Currently, he said the company has ten branches in the Ashanti Region. In all, they have 38 branches serving 650,000 clients in ten regions.
The company also donated GHC50,000 to the Otumfuo Foundation.
Victoria Baxter
Germany-based Ghanaian activist Victoria Baxter, popularly known as Madam Afua Durowaa, and some German officials also joined the festival.
Madam Durowaa who has been a resident of Germany for the past 14 years informed the King about her objective to acquire some lands depleted by illegal mining to establish a residential facility at Mpatoam for Ghanaians who seek to return home.
A proposal of the project, she indicated, had been submitted to the Bundestag of Germany with the team sent to Ghana to inspect the land.
In her address, Madam Durowaa called for support for the endeavour.
“It’s time we help ourselves and assemble ourselves to come home. The whites do not respect us and do not know our worth. We need everyone’s help to make this vision a success.”
