Man Arrested At Nyamesom Mining Site Not a Soldier- GAF
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has discredited reports linking one Eric Opoku, a suspected robber arrested in the Ashanti Region to the Forces.
The 27-year-old, dressed in military regalia, was arrested for his involvement in an attempted robbery at a mining site at Nyamesom in the region, creating an impression of his affiliation with the country’s military.
However, in a statement, the Director General for GAF Public Relations, Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, discredited the information.
“Our investigation shows that the alleged suspect is not a soldier of the GAF, neither has the institution deployed the said identified person to perform such duties at the said mining site. He has no ties whatsoever with GAF.”
He further cautioned the public against the unauthorised use of military accoutrements.
“GAF wishes to caution all persons who use military accoutrements without authorisation that they would be severely dealt with by the law when caught.”
Meanwhile, it has urged the public to report suspicious persons in military uniforms to the nearest military units or police stations for the necessary action to be taken.
